Rizal Ramdhani
Painter | b. 1992, Bandung, Indonesia
Rizal Ramdhani is a contemporary Indonesian landscape painter and mural artist based in Bandung. He began learning to paint from his older brother, Wiradjaya, a landscape painter, from around the sixth grade of elementary school through junior high school. This early experience became an important foundation for his development as an artist.
Working primarily with acrylic on canvas, Rizal creates realist landscape paintings inspired by the natural scenery of Java and Bali. His subjects include rice fields, mountains, forests, rivers, lakes, rural landscapes, and the sea, as well as animals and portraits.
A distinctive quality of Rizal’s work is his ability to create dramatic lighting and atmospheric depth. Through the interplay of light, color, and expressive brushwork, he transforms familiar Indonesian landscapes into vivid and immersive paintings. His use of light gives the scenery a sense of life and allows viewers to imagine themselves entering the landscape.
Rizal’s Indonesian landscape paintings are well suited to living rooms, bedrooms, and private spaces, bringing the beauty of nature into contemporary interiors. His work combines the visual appeal of realistic landscape painting with an atmospheric quality that creates a strong presence within a room.
Alongside his studio practice, Rizal works professionally as a mural artist, creating large-scale paintings for cafés, coffee shops, restaurants, commercial spaces, and private environments. His ability to work across canvas and architectural surfaces reflects the versatility of a young Indonesian artist who has built a full-time professional career through painting and mural art.
His works are held in private collections in Indonesia and internationally, bringing his interpretations of Indonesian landscapes into homes and private spaces around the world.
One of Rizal’s aspirations as an artist is to bring his Indonesian landscape art to an international audience. This ambition has begun to take shape through his participation in the Niluh Swati Indonesian Art Program (NSIAP) at ARTe Kunstmesse Wiesbaden 2026, Germany, held at the RheinMain CongressCenter from 11–13 September 2026.
